Susan & Michael
Past District Governor (Susan) and KidSight Screening Chair (Michael)
Susan and Michael became Lions in 2010 while living in Brookfield CT, then transferred their membership to the Waxhaw Club following a relocation to the Charlotte NC area. Over the years, both have held numerous leadership roles at the club and district levels. Susan served as District Governor for North Carolina’s 31-O and remains a driving force for club development as a Certified Guiding Lion and Waxhaw’s Membership Chair. Michael has served multiple years as Club President and Treasurer, and leads the club’s KidSight vision screening initiative. He also contributes at the district level as the Sight and Hearing Conservation Chair for the NC Lions Foundation, helping expand access to vital services to vision-impaired individuals across the region.
Both have been honored as Melvin Jones Fellows and recognized with numerous awards for their humanitarian contributions. In 2025, Susan received the esteemed Lions Clubs International Presidential Medal – the organization’s second highest accolade – in recognition of her leadership and service. Her impact has also been celebrated beyond Lions, including being named one of Union County’s “50 Most Powerful Women”, and earning the U.S. President’s Volunteer Service Award from the White House for four consecutive years, a testament to her commitment to community service.
Susan is a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University with degrees in both Physics and Management Science. She spent the first half of her career as a research engineer in the semiconductor industry, and transitioned into third party management for the second half before retiring as a Senior VP at Bank of America. Susan and her husband Michael, a retired carpenter, live in Fort Mill, SC. Their four children and three grandchildren all live in various northeastern states.
They have a lot of fun working side by side with Waxhaw Lions and are thrilled to welcome and mentor new members!
