Ally & Norbert
Club Members
Originally from Staten Island, New York, Lion Ally discovered Waxhaw through a friend’s glowing recommendation. After visiting, she and her husband Norbert fell in love with the town’s ambiance, beautiful climate, and slower pace, making it the perfect place to retire.
With a professional background as a licensed cosmetologist and salon owner/operator, she spent her career enhancing lives through personal care and meaningful conversation. Her passion for connecting with others and making a positive impact continues to shape her values and service today.
Her Lions Club journey began in New York, where a client invited her to attend a meeting. The experience stayed with her, and after settling in Waxhaw, she joined the local club to continue that spirit of service. Since then, she’s found deep fulfillment in working alongside fellow Lions who share her commitment to helping others. Among many memorable moments, one stands out: attending the Youth Music Fundraiser where the Waxhaw Lions were honored guests. She was especially moved by the talent and dedication of the young performers, many of whom are now becoming Leos. For Lion Ally, every project is a new opportunity to make a difference, and every gathering is a reminder of the joy found in serving together.
Lion Norbert grew up in a Roman Catholic home for boys, where he lived until age 18. The experience taught him the foundations of Christianity and the importance of giving that stayed with him through adulthood.
After serving in Vietnam, Norbert transitioned into civilian life and began working in the Wall Street area. His career included time at the New York Stock Exchange, the American Stock Exchange, and several major brokerage firms. He became proficient in stocks, bonds, and securities—and still enjoys helping friends build strong portfolios. Later, Norbert worked for the Department of Environmental Protection, where he found purpose in protecting our natural resources. He was also a Lion in New York and loved working with people through service.
After retiring and moving to North Carolina, he and his wife Ally attended a local festival where they met Lions Club members. After settling into their new home, they joined the Waxhaw Lions family. Norbert is passionate about supporting young people—they are our future, and he believes in helping them get started in serving others.
