Torrence Burrowes

Lion Torrence Burrowes became a Lions member in 1982 as a Charter member of the Brooklyn Clinton Hill Lions Club in District 20K-1, in Brooklyn N.Y. He brings with him the Lions International goal, “WE SERVE”.
He is a retired Head of School. This career took him to various states and countries. He credits his tenure at the Anglo American International School with this start. He served in several positions as a school administrator and as a Lion with an international perspective.
Some of the Lions’ positions, in which he served as an officer in Brooklyn includes:Director, Vice President, President, Zone Chairman, and Cabinet Secretary/Treasurer. He attended his first Lions International Convention in Taipei in 1987. His heart was opened to beyond the Lions Day at the UN in the United States. He also received the Melvin Jones Award. His passion for volunteerism was extended to Ringwood, New Jersey, where he served as an Emergency Medical Technician. He volunteered as an EMT for 18 years and a term as Captain.
The opportunities to continue to serve as a Lion in Waxhaw came after he relocated here, three years ago. Immediately, his membership was transferred. In collaboration with other Lion members, there was a community based Leos Club organized. He has become an Advisor to the Next Gen Leo Club sponsored by the Waxhaw Lions Club. All of Torrence’s training has been emphatically in the education of children and youth. His academic training has taken him through Texas A and M University, Brooklyn College, Universidad de Salamanca and Columbia University.
He and his wife, Maeonis, are the parents of five children.They are also grandparents of ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
